My 21-year-old daughter Kelley had a heart of gold, but she also had bipolar disorder, which caused her to be highly impulsive. On July 11th 2007, Kelley made a suicide attempt on impulse, but she told me later that she didn't really want to die. Kelley's cell phone showed she had been text messaging her friend Amber between midnight and 2:13 AM on July 11th. Kelley told Amber she had taken large amounts of Vicodin and stated, "I'm starting to go, and I'm not afraid. I can't feel my limbs. My breathing is shallow. I might just go into a coma. Bye. Hopefully I'm gone forever." Amber responded with, "Why are you doing this?" and "Go to the doctor, please." At 2:13 AM, Amber texted Kelley, "Are you OK?” Kelley never responded. All Amber had to do was call 911 or call Kelley's parents, and Kelley would probably have survived. Kelley died from Tylenol poisoning, which destroyed her liver. Vicodin contains large amounts of Tylenol. When I learned around 7:00 PM on July 11th that Kelley had taken Vicodin and was unresponsive, I picked her up from her house and drove her to the hospital. She was in and out of consciousness and told me she did not want to die. If she had really wanted to kill herself, she wouldn't have texted Amber about what she had done. Kelley was crying out for help, hoping Amber would "rescue" her by calling for help, but Amber chose to do nothing. Kelley was our only child. Kelley died July 12th 2007. If someone tells you she is making a suicide attempt, take her seriously and call for help! Your decision could determine whether that person lives or dies. Jill Wilson (MOM) Died October 29th 2008 From the grief of losing our only child. I sit here by myself wondering one phone call. It not only Caused Kelley’s death but destroyed our lives also. |
